I really enjoyed this article. It is very well written. What I like most is the clear thinking throughout — no ungrounded hypotheses, just sharp, rational analysis.

Interestingly, the criteria for sustainable success that underlie your analysis align closely with what I published in 2018 on the Principles of Sustainable Investment in Springer’s Series on Sustainable Finance. My concepts are based on the operational principles of living systems.

From this perspective, the current AI industry’s massive concentration and centralization on single nodes — along with the violation of several other key criteria — is particularly concerning. This goes far beyond the high energy absorption alone.

Thank you Michael. The living systems parallel is one we hadn't drawn explicitly but it maps precisely. A biological system that routes all its energy through a single node is one disruption away from collapse, which is exactly the topology the AI capex structure has built. The concentration isn't just a financial risk. Viewed through your framework it's a design flaw that violates every principle of resilient systems architecture. I'll look up the Springer chapter. If your Substack explores these intersections between living systems and economic structure, I'd be interested to follow the work.
